Week 4 Post 2
The story of Procris is supposed to illustrate the foolishness of women. She was a devoted and loving wife whose husband ran away to have an affair. She waited for him faithfully and he came back and tried to trick her to test her faithfulness. She fell for the trick and fell for the bribe of jewels. In her shame, she fled to the mountains and dedicated herself to the maiden goddess Artemis. She ended up longing for her old life and found her way back to her husband. She gave him the tools she had gotten from her past adventures as a huntress. This angered Artemis since Procris was giving up her maidenhood for an adulterous man. Procris began to question her husband so she went out to follow him on a hunting trip. He heard a rustle in the bushes behind him where Procris hid. He threw the spear she had given him that could never miss and struck her in the heart. She was killed by her own husband at the will of Artemis.
